A black metal lantern with a carved pumpkin glowing inside it, and it really does light up. There is a switch on the base and the button batteries are already in, so it works the moment it comes out of the box. Carry it by the handle, stand it on a shelf, or hang it. The glow is warm and steady rather than harsh, which is what makes it read as candlelight in a photograph.

Fun fact: Jack o lanterns started out as turnips, not pumpkins. Irish and Scottish families carved faces into turnips and beets to ward off a wandering spirit called Stingy Jack. When they emigrated to America they found pumpkins, which are far bigger and far easier to hollow out, and never went back.
